The 2026 NWT Cross Country Run brought more than 200 students from three regions of the Northwest Territories together in Fort Providence for a beautiful day of movement, competition, encouragement, and community.

An event of this size is only possible when organizations and communities work together. NT School Sports is very grateful to Athletics NWT for its generous support of this year’s event. Athletics NWT helped provide the championship banners, medals, and flags used to signal our starting and finishing areas. These contributions helped create a welcoming, organized, and memorable experience for every student who participated.

The flags helped runners, coaches, volunteers, and spectators identify important areas of the event. The medals gave us an opportunity to celebrate individual achievements, while the banners recognized the schools whose combined participation and results earned the Aggregate and Overall Awards. Each of these items helped make the event feel special, but their impact went beyond what could be seen on the course.

Partnerships allow organizations to combine their resources, knowledge, and passion. When we support one another, we can create stronger events and reach more young people across the Northwest Territories.

Athletics NWT’s contribution demonstrated what is possible when territorial sport organizations and school sport work together toward a shared goal. More than 200 students had an opportunity to challenge themselves, represent their schools, connect with other communities, and experience the joy of being active outdoors. These experiences build confidence, resilience, friendships, and a stronger sense of belonging. They also help students see that many people and organizations believe in them and want to support their participation.

Strong communities are built when people step forward, contribute what they can, and work together to create opportunities for others. Every banner, medal, flag, volunteer, coach, teacher, and community partner played a part in making the NWT Cross Country Run possible.
