Sometimes the most important moments in sport are not found on the scoreboard. They are found in the way people show up for each other.
At this year’s Junior Cager, NT School Sports proudly introduced the Fair Play Pin, a special recognition that celebrates respect, kindness, and leadership in action. These pins are not given lightly. They are earned in real moments, seen and felt by those around them.
Our first ever Fair Play Pin recipients set the tone for what this recognition truly means.
Kai Brennan from St. Joseph School played with relentless effort and heart, but what stood out most was how he treated others. Time and time again, he helped opponents up off the floor, even while the game continued. A simple gesture, repeated often, showing that respect matters just as much as competition.
Samaya (#12) from Cambridge Bay embodied everything school sport stands for. On and off the court, she showed integrity, kindness, and care for everyone around her. Whether it was supporting others, helping clean up without being asked, or taking the time to thank coaches and organizers, she reminded us all what leadership truly looks like.
These moments may seem small, but they carry a powerful message.
Fair play is not just about rules. It is about how we connect, how we support one another, and how we represent our schools and communities. It is about creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and part of something bigger.
As we continue this journey, we look forward to recognizing many more moments like these. Because in the end, sport is not just about winning. It is about who we become along the way.
