As the 2026–2027 school sport season approaches, NT School Sports is excited to see the Fair Play Pledge become a meaningful tradition at tournaments across the Northwest Territories.
School sport is about much more than winning games. It is about learning respect, building friendships, showing leadership, and creating positive experiences for everyone involved. The Fair Play Pledge helps set that tone before the first whistle blows.
This season, we hope to see athletes from every community proudly stepping forward to read the pledge at opening ceremonies and before competition begins. It’s a simple moment that reminds athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators that how we compete matters just as much as the final score.
- By taking the pledge together, participants commit to:
- Playing fair and giving their best effort
- Treating teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators with respect
- Supporting one another with kindness and encouragement
- Creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments for everyone
The pledge only takes a minute to read, but its impact can last throughout an entire tournament. Throughout the upcoming school year, the Fair Play Pledge will continue to be encouraged at NT School Sports events, helping reinforce the values that make school sport such a positive experience for students across the Northwest Territories.
We are looking forward to seeing many student-athletes proudly reading the Fair Play Pledge during the 2026–2027 season and helping set the tone for another incredible year of competition, friendship, and sportsmanship.
Together, let’s make every event one that is remembered not only for great performances, but for great character. Play with respect. Compete with heart. Lead by example.
