We’re excited to launch a new initiative celebrating school sport while empowering youth and supporting Northern artists!
The NT School Sports Youth Photographer Program invites young photographers from across the territory to capture the moments, movement, and meaning behind school sport events. By combining mentorship, creativity, and community, this initiative aims to spotlight local talent, amplify student voices, and help build valuable storytelling skills.
Why This Matters
• Support for Local Artists: We want to shine a light on emerging youth photographers, encouraging their craft and giving them a platform.
• Stronger Visual Storytelling: Our events are filled with joy, passion, and teamwork. We want to make sure that’s captured and shared with families, schools, and communities across the North.
• Mentorship Opportunities: Youth participants will receive guidance, tips, and feedback from experienced media mentors, helping them build confidence and skill.
• Future Growth: This is just the beginning. Our long term vision includes peer mentorship, media workshops, and an annual youth photography showcase.
First Stop: Yellowknife, Junior Spike It Volleyball Tournament
Our pilot event will take place at the Junior Spike It Volleyball Tournament in Yellowknife, where a small team of youth and community photographers will document the excitement both on and off the court.
Photographers will receive:
• A shot list with key moments to capture
• A mentor package with helpful tips and guidelines
• Support with file submission, photo credits, and showcasing their work
We believe school sport is more than just competition. It’s about community, connection, and growth. Through this initiative, we’re making space for youth to tell those stories through their lens. Stay tuned for updates, photos from the event, and future opportunities!
