NTSSA Releases 2026–2027 School Sport Calendar

The Northwest Territories School Sports Association (NTSSA) is pleased to release the 2026–2027 School Sport Calendar, providing students, schools, coaches, officials, volunteers, and families with a clear schedule of territorial championships and major school sport events for the upcoming school year.

The calendar represents months of collaboration and thoughtful planning. While the dates and locations of many events are determined by local organizing committees and host schools, the schedule has been developed to create as much consistency as possible from year to year, helping schools and communities plan well in advance.

As part of this planning process, the NTSSA Executive reviewed two important questions:

  • Should one of Yellowknife’s three major tournaments be hosted in another community?
  • Can a consistent annual template be developed for school sport events across the Northwest Territories?

After reviewing the advantages and challenges, it was determined that the three largest Yellowknife events, Spike It, Cager, and Super Soccer, should continue to be hosted in Yellowknife. Considerations included travel costs, facility availability, participation numbers, the availability of officials, and the ability of schools to supervise teams competing across multiple divisions.

The Executive also agreed that establishing a consistent yearly template benefits everyone involved in school sport. While adjustments will occasionally be necessary to accommodate events such as the Canada Winter Games, Arctic Winter Games, or the Northwest Territories Educators’ Conference, maintaining a predictable calendar helps schools, students, coaches, and host communities prepare more effectively.

The 2026–2027 calendar includes championships in soccer, cross country running, volleyball, table tennis, hockey, badminton, basketball, and track and field, with events taking place across Hay River, Fort Providence, Fort Smith, and Yellowknife throughout the school year.

NTSSA would like to thank the many schools, school districts, volunteers, officials, organizing committees, and community partners who make these championships possible each year. Their commitment provides hundreds of students with opportunities to compete, learn, develop leadership skills, and build lasting friendships through sport.

The 2026–2027 school sport season promises another exciting year of competition, teamwork, and school spirit, and we look forward to seeing students from across the Northwest Territories participate throughout the year.

We wish all schools, coaches, officials, volunteers, and student-athletes a successful and enjoyable 2026–2027 school sport season.
