Youth Photographers Capture the Heart of the 2025 NWT School Table Tennis Championships

At this year’s NWT School Table Tennis Championships, it wasn’t just the rallies, medal moments, or big wins that stood out. It was the way our youth captured them.

NT School Sports is incredibly proud of our youth photographers who stepped behind the lens to document the tournament. Their images were featured in the Yellowknifer this week, highlighting not only strong athletic performances but also the energy, focus, and joy that filled the gym at St. Pat’s.

What makes this program special is that many of our youth photographers are also athletes. They compete, they cheer, and then they pick up the camera to show us the event through their eyes. This dual role brings a unique perspective, they understand the nerves of a first serve, the concentration of a long rally, and the pride of stepping onto the court for your school. Their photographs reflect that lived experience.

These images tell the story of more than a championship. They show the importance of participation, community, and belonging. They show young people supporting one another, celebrating each other, and stepping into leadership roles both on the court and behind the camera.

We want to recognize youth like Lexi, Carys and Dylan, whose photographs were published in the Yellowknifer, and all the students across the territory who are learning to document sport in a way that feels honest and full of heart. Their work helps bring our school sport community to life, and we are grateful for the creativity, care, and pride they bring to every event.

To every athlete, coach, volunteer, and youth photographer who shaped this championship, thank you. You remind us why school sport matters and how powerful it is when young people are given the space to participate, create, and be seen.
